The red ring of death is an inevitable conclusion for most Xbox 360 owners. But instead of mourning his console’s loss, U.K.-based student Jasper Stevens did something fun to give his lifeless and out-of-warranty Xbox 360 a second chance.

Stevens took it apart and harvested its parts to create a mechanical robot called Roboman.
“The copper wire used in the piece, the flexicable stuff and some other pieces of wiring is from outside,” he says. “Everything else is from the Xbox.”
It’s the first sculpture he has made out of gadget parts. And it took just about three hours to create.

While I can’t identify all of the components used in the RRoDMan Xbox 360, I see plenty of the wiring, connectors, plastic bits and RF shielding that you’d find inside your 360. Jasper says the entire sculpture is made from parts harvested from his deceased 360 – with no tape, glue or other parts holding it together.

Unfortunately, there wasn’t enough room to cram in the 360’s DVD drive, but it does make a nice base for the robo-sculpture. And I think he could build a whole baby-bot out of the giant 360 power brick.

All I can say is great job, Jasper! I hope your 360 was already out of warranty. I was this close to doing the same with my PS3 Phat the other day when it got hit with the Y2K10229 bug, but luckily it resolved itself.

I grew up believing that when Xbox 360s died, they went to Xbox heaven. Turns out some of them, presumably the Buddhist and Hindu ones, get reincarnated as super-cute robot sculpture thingies!
Such is the case with Jasper Stevens' Xbox 360.

Things break. And this generation, the Xbox 360 has broken more than any other console. Some gamers might simply become resigned. Jasper Steven is not one of those people.
When his Xbox 360 croaked, he decided that he'd had enough so he gutted the machine and made this Xbox 360 sculpture. It is not held together by glue or tape, but the sorrow of its fallen comrades.
