Coffee: It's not just for marathon blogging sessions anymore.

It may be full of beans, but that's a good thing: An automobile dubbed the "Car-puccino" has been designed to run only on leftover coffee grounds. The heavily modified 1988 Volkswagen Scirocco was created for British TV show

The idea of making biofuel from waste coffee grounds is nothing new, but the Carpuccino allows drivers to pour coffee granules directly into a gas cylinder attached to the car, where it is heated up and broken down into hydrogen and carbon monoxide. But despite its convenience, the Carpuccino isn't exactly practical--during a planned 210 mile trip between Manchester and London, the vehicle will use 70 kilos of ground coffee at a rate of three miles per kilo of ground coffee, or approximately 56 espressos per mile.

Coffee-powered Car I'll see your electric vehicle and raise you in fuel inefficiency!

Readers feeling jittery on their second or third cuppa might giggle at the concept of the Carpuccino, but few car owners will. The wacky UK invention comes in the form of a converted 1988 Volkswagen Scirocco that downs about 56 espressos per mile, the Daily Mail reports. That should only cost about 25 to 50 times the cost of running a car on gas.

As a professional blogger, I am fueled by coffee in a way most comparable to the way that an automobile is fueled by gasoline. Without coffee, I do not function: I am not so much zombie as corpse. But get a cup or morning joe into me and I spring to life, my engine combusting, my gears churning, my mind racing. That sweet elixir of locomotion, coffee! Oh, how I love you. Is there anything you can’t do?
The answer to that last rhetorical question is, of course, no.

Forget the electric vehicle revolution--this car is juiced up by the same stuff that powers you in the morning. The "Carpuccino" car was built by a team from the BBC science show Bang Goes The Theory to prove the viability of cars powered by fuels other than conventional gasoline and diesel. The car, built from a converted 1988 Volkswagen Scirocco, was used by the show because it looks like the DeLorean from Back to the Future.
