The other felt hindered by a timing problem he couldn't correct. Two pitchers. One spot. Two different diagnoses for ineffectiveness. Jonathon Niese and Fernando Nieve, two of the candidates for the Mets fifth starter position, both pitched on Wednesday. Niese started. He couldn't find his fastball. Nieve relieved him. He couldn't throw breaking balls for strikes. Each allowed three runs.
