Michael Wilson just doubled in Josh Wilson with the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth, giving the Mariners a 4-3 lead.
Got to see young Venezuelan pitcher Mauricio Robles in the sixth. He retired the side in impressive fashion, getting Jerry Hairston Jr. on a groundout to Dustin Ackley at second. Then, he got Adrian Gonzalez to loft a lazy fly to left -- off the end of his bat -- for out No. 2. Finally, after falling behind 2-0 to Chase Headley, he battled back and got him to stare at a full-count offering for a called third strike.
Not bad for a guy who turns 21 tomorrow and hasn't pitched higher than Class A.

Dustin Ackley just made his first real fielding mistake of the spring. Ackley was a second base when a ball got roped to the left field corner. Corey Patterson did a good job of getting to the ball and made a strong throw that was about to nab the runner at second in plent y of time.
But Ackley simply dropped the ball.
Mariners still trail 8-3 as we head to the bottom of the sixth. A forgettable day thus far.

The highlight of the inning was a no-doubt, grand slam over the fence in left center by Tommy Everidge, seen in the photo above after the game.
So, it's a 9-3 final. The second run of the inning came after a single by Dustin Ackley and an ensuing single by Carlos Triunfel. Nice to see that out of those two guys. Even more impressive was how, on a flyout to medium center, a hustling Ackley took off for third and made it in safely. Triunfel alertly followed as well. That's the type of stuff the team is looking for.... Open »
