Toyota recalls thousands of Prius cars worldwide

The recall, to start Feb. 10, is to cover 223,068 hybrids in Japan, affecting Prius, Sai, Lexus HS250h and Prius Plug-In Hybrid models. Nearly 200,000 of the cars in the recall are Prius models. In the U.S., the company will recall 133,000 2010 model year Prius cars  as well as 14,500 Lexus Division 2010 250h vehicles, Toyota said.
The recall will update software in the vehicles' anti-lock brake system.
Toyota's president Akio Toyoda set out plans to address the Prius issue Tuesday in his first public appearance in the Japanese capital since a wave of technical problems engulfed Toyota. 
Mr. Toyoda, a member of the auto maker's founding family, has faced criticism overseas— particularly in the U.S.—over what some see as a slow response to the company's recent troubles.
